Is it a boy or a girl???

I respect parents who wait until birth to find out about their baby's gender, but I'm definitely not one of them. I like making plans and thinking of the future and I think that gender is a factor that shapes those plans. Hopefully, not that drastically, but I think it's naive to argue otherwise.

Although I had a slight preference for girls at the beginning of my pregnancy, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I couldn't have cared less. I mean, a boy or a girl, I know my love won't change.

But since the suspense is hard, I decided to look online for some tests and here's what I found:According the very complicated Chinese lunar calendar baby prediction, it's a girl:
http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/Charts/BabyGender.htm
According to some numerological things, it's a boy
According to some Mayan even number/odd number thing, it's a girl
Then I found the following website who told me this:
You have a 40% chance of having a boy. And you have a 60% chance of having a girl.
http://www.childbirth.org/index.html

And Here's Why...
You are carrying the extra weight out front, so it's a boy. The hair on your legs is not growing any faster during your pregnancy, so it's a girl. Boys are carried low. You are going to have a boy. Dad-to-be hasn't been gaining weight along with Mom-to-be, so it will be a girl. The maternal grandmother doesn't have gray hair (dyed or natural), so a girl will be born. You didn't have morning sickness early in pregnancy, so it will be a boy. You are not looking particularly good during pregnancy. Therefore, it must be a girl, because girls steal their mother's looks. Your chest development has been quite dramatic during pregnancy. You should expect a girl. Since the sum of the mother's age at conception and the number of the month of conception is an odd number, it will be a girl. A needle on a thread held over you belly moves from side-to-side, so it will be a girl. Your urine is a dull yellow color, so you will have a girl. You have a craving for salty or sour foods, which means that it is a boy. Your nose hasn't changed during pregnancy, which indicates a girl. You have been craving meats or cheeses, so it is a boy. Your baby's heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, so it's a girl.

Bottom line is we still have a 50 % chance. And we're going to have to wait a little bit longer to find out :)

  1. So interesting!!! I never could figure out the Chinese calendar thing - because some of the websites say "age at conception" and some "age at birth" and then I looked up that you have to look up your "chinese age" which may be different altogether!

As for the details of pregnancy, some I am like, wow - that's so true! (ie: With Isa my skin was definitely worse, i gained weight everywhere, my boobs got HUGE, and I definitely wasn't that pretty and with this one i've only gained in my belly, my boobs have shrunk and I feel prettier!) but other things - like nausea - i was MUCH worse with the boy! And as for hair, my hair w/ Isa completely stopped coming out - even when brushing or showering, but with this one, my hair comes out as normal - but I have friends who have the opposite!

The cravings are hilarious - me, pregnant or not, always craves cheese and salty things! haha. And my nose definitely was worse with Isa than this one.

That said, back to the first parts you write about - I am not patient about finding out either! I like to know their name, I like to give them a persona in the womb ;). I like to say "he likes this/he doesn't like that/feel him move" (or her). And I know that with Isa, I was hell-bent on having a girl ;) - I was much more concerned for her being a girl than what this one was - I couldn't help it! All my friends are oldest sisters, Jason has an older sister, and I just half expected/half wanted to have my brood start with an older sister too! As for this one, I keep joking with Jason that we have to keep some girl clothes around so that Isa can dress her brother up as a boy. Jason rolls his eyes, but then i point to my brothers and say that they wouldn't have ended up so good if I hadn't harassed them as children ;) hehe!

I can't wait to find out what your burrito will be, regardless of which it is! I will snuggle him/her, nibble his/her toes just the same!

  2. OMG, thanks for sharing your experiences. I have been wondering about you since you have experienced both. So interesting!!

I hear what you're saying about salty things and cheese, same here.

So yesterday, we had an ultrasound. I was sooo excited and ready to find out. And of course, our little blueberry sat in there like a rabbit, closing firmly his legs, and now we're going to have to wait another 3 weeks. I was so disappointed :)

He totally played with us. But the good news is it all seems to be going well.

  3. i can't imagine how with you and claude the baby would end up modest!! HA! love it ;). well, if i've learned one thing in pregnancy its that pregnancy is definitely the beginning of learning that you no longer control anything! (they do ;)). I thought that would start at 13 years old... nope, even in the womb they do what they want! I woke up to baby Noah having the hiccups this morning, it was so funny, he just kept bumping into my left side - not strong like kicks, just little bumps in a rhythm pattern. I love it when they have the hiccups ;)
